Using technology to help sex workers access judgement free healthcare.

sware. sex worker friendly care.

The problem:

Following the Nordic model approach to sex work, Canada does not criminalize sex workers and considers their labour taxable. Despite this, workers in the industry are stigmatized. This stigma can lead to discrimination when they are open about their job while seeking, for example, the help of a physician or therapist. Finding businesses and services that are openly sex worker friendly can be difficult and can lead workers to conceal the nature of their employment, to the detriment of their physical health and mental well-being.

The solution

sware is an application developed to help sex workers find compassionate, non judgmental care. It connects sex workers with sex worker friendly businesses and services in their area such as doctors, therapists, and estheticians. sware facilitates the search for sex worker friendly businesses and services by presenting options that have been vetted by sex worker run organizations or fellow sex workers. sware allows users to search by location, service, and rating. It also allows users to connect with other sex workers who have used listed services.

sware allows sex workers to feel safe speaking freely about their work in order to access and receive the care and services they need without fear of discrimination. sware maintains close relationships with sex workers as well as local and national sex worker run organizations to ensure its listings are accurate and to preserve the safety and comfort of its users.
